Very moving. I, too, have been downsizing since I was 12 years old. It doesn't get any easier.

Is 50 the minimum age you when you can get it? I wonder if that's changed. A financial adviser said this is a great idea even for younger people, but I don't recall if he said what's the youngest you can be. I'm going to find out.

I have considered it myself. I don't recall if there's a minimum age requirement, but a financial adviser friend of mine said this is the way to go, because even younger people can become ill or injured and need long-term care, even though we never like to think it could happen to us.

So true! I feel like I was 20 last week, and my oldest is only a year a way from turning an adult, so whose math is wrong?

We bought long-tem care insurance as soon we could-at age 50-and the premiums are not that bad. We are at peace knowing that our kids will not have to go through with us what we did with our parents. Wherever we end up-assisted living and/or nursing home-it will be paid for. We also don't have social security so that's not a worry for us but the increasing cost of everything is. We've been buying our daily meds from Canada and saving about 2/3 of the cost, so that's another plus. We have been very blessed, and lucky, at least so far.

So very true, Kerry, I do feel lucky to have my parents close. I was on the other side of it myself until they moved here -- I hadn't seen my dad in 13 years and my mom in 10 or 11, and they had not met my older boys until they were pre-teens, except for a month my mom spent with us when the oldest was a newborn. Your comments have inspired a new topic for a post :) Thank you for reading the blog!
